Teaching is Hard Work
(If we can prove guilt, we may get compensationA solicitor’s letter.)
I was mugged on a roundabout –Robbed of half an hourAnd left to lieIn silence.
‘How are you sir?Bikes are dead dangerous ya knowYou wanna be careful.’
Teaching is hard work,But learning is harder.
When I started to teachI thought kids were just kids –Some are, right enough,But some defy the labelTime has pinned on them.
No one in the staff roomRemembered I’d been knocked down –Their lives were the thingThe rest was just what WillCalled Ornament.
Teaching is hard work –But it has its compensations.
