A Holy Man
In 1932, Fritz Gerlich and Ingbert Naab in Der Gerade Weg wrote:‘National Socialism means enmity with neighbouring countries,Despotism in internal affairs, civil war, international war.National Socialism means lies, hatred, fratricide and unboundedMisery. Adolf Hitler preaches the law of lies. You have fallen victimTo the deceptions of one obsessed with despotism, wake up!’
Pope Pius XII was a holy man it seems -He chastised his flock with his holiness. He was their father, guiding them fromThe tangle of life on earth to the perfect peaceOf a heaven waiting for its chosen people. But the devil had not died and stalked the earthIn the shape of the Communist wolfPreying on his flock – so the Nazi dogsKept the wolf at bay.Tall and thin as a dry branch drainedBy the winter of its sap Pius made his choice:He acknowledged the crooked crossDenying his god with his crown of thorns.
The Germans followed and ignored the JewsWhen they carved a-cross- to-rememberBy the side of Hitler’s name. Then down the hate-filled burning yearsWhen Jews were tortured and killedA few imperishable souls resisted -But they died in DeutschlandReviled and detested.
In nineteen hundred and forty sixHe spoke up at last for the ‘Hebrew people’And told how he’d always stood by their side. But Pius was tempted by the Fuhrer –He fell – and the angels would not bide.
